Savvy Tips: Removing Red Wine Stains from Carpet
Disclaimer: This is only an option, the effectiveness varies depending on the nap of carpet

You've seen it before, you're at a party where the hosts are brave enough to entertain in a room with white carpet. You opt for the clear drinks and stand as still as a guard at Buckingham Palace but then the dreaded happens, someone laughing uncontrollably while holding a glass of red wine accidentally spills. Oh, the silence is deafening as you watch the frantic host attempt to clean the stain before it sets in. Don't let this be you!

Here's a quick tip to help remove red wine stains from light carpet.
  • First and foremost, add dry salt to the stain immediately!
  • Second, after no more than three minutes, scoop up the salt
  • Third, if there is white wine around pour it in a bowl and dip a thick, damp white towel in it and begin blotting. DO NOT RUB, only blot until you soak up the red white. (Note: white wine actually neutralizes red wine). If no white wine is available just use water.
  • Fourth, add club soda directly to the stain
  • Next, blot again until the majority of the stain soaked up
  • Lastly, treat the affected area with carpet cleaner or stain remover designed for clothing

To prevent having to do the above, the obvious answer is to serve clear drinks if you have light carpet...or...on the same day you purchase red wine for your party, also invest in one of the new wine stain remover solutions on the market.

Enjoy!
